A third boat possibility . . . . Truck Delphie East

In discussing "the perfect boat" it occured to me that we already have the perfect boat - Delphie.

We built her to our specifications and she's everything we want.

But is she a good "loop boat"

We are still researching,  we'd lose the trailer-ability between the legs but gain so much in comfort -

Will keep you posted.

First we need a boat

As with everything we do - this is usually known as the "first negotiation stage".  Brian is looking at small powerboats, fishing boats, and mini trawlers.  Ellen is looking at the European and Erie Canal rental boats which have a much more spacious interior and romantic look to them.

The decision will also be to buy a boat on the East Coast - or build/restore one in California that can can be trailer-ed East.

What is The Great American Loop?

According to the information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Loop  - the Loop looks like this

And is defined as

The circumnavigation of Eastern North America by water is known as The Great Loop. Also improperly referred to as the Great Circle Route (see definition of a great circle), the trip varies from 5,000 miles to 7,500 miles depending on the options used. The boats used range from personal watercraft (jet-skis) to 60-foot yachts. Both sailboats and powerboats are used but the most common boats are 34–45 ft recreational trawlers. The main factors that govern the size of the boat are the limited draft (5 feet) in some locations on the loop and the height of one bridge (19 feet) in Chicago, Illinois. People traveling The Great Loop are known as "loopers." The number of people attempting this voyage is growing with the baby boomers reaching retirement age.
